National volunteering

In every nation where we work, we encounter energetic and creative people working to drive their own country’s development.
VSO’s national volunteering program, which runs in 18 countries, is a cost-effective and empowering way of leveraging the skills of a country’s own citizens to support development. The program assists in the formation and strengthening of local and national volunteering by promoting active citizenship. This enables people to contribute to the development of their own communities.
Our approach is to provide assistance to organizations to develop and manage volunteer programs that respond to locally identified priorities. VSO International does not run these programs but rather supports local agencies that provide an effective way of addressing shared development aims. National volunteering plays to our distinct competence as an international development agency working through volunteers, and reflects a contemporary approach to volunteering and development.
CUSO-VSO recruits volunteers in North America specifically to support National Volunteering in Guyana and West Africa (Cameroon, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Sierra Leone and the Gambia).
Recruitment opportunities
We are currently recruiting skilled volunteers from Canada and the United States to support our national volunteering partners overseas.
CUSO-VSO is looking for international volunteers with significant experience in volunteer program development, implementation and management in support of our national volunteering program. This may involve working with government on developing national volunteering policy, supporting civil society to develop and strengthen local volunteer programs, or working with the corporate sector to develop Employer-supported volunteering initiatives.
