Rural stimulus initiative 'could help to secure livelihoods in China'
03/02/2010
Suggestions have been submitted to the Chinese government on how its rural stimulus plan can benefit workers in the country, it has been reported.
A consortium of organisations, including the China Strategy Institute of Building Materials and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, proposed that farmers receive funds for construction materials for home-building projects costing more than 100,000 yuan (£9,178), the China Daily reported.
These individual grants would range between 5,000 and 20,000 yuan, the newspaper highlighted, and may serve to reduce the amount people spend on their current accommodation.
The China Cement Association is quoted as saying that, as a result of the rebates the rural cement market could enjoy a boost in activity as people buy materials for house building.
Last November, a report compiled by Unicef stated that China has progressed well in protecting the rights of its children, but added that those living in rural areas still need help, CCTV informed.
