Volunteer aims to improve health in Ethiopia

A woman from the US who adopted three children from Ethiopia is to return to the country to continue offering support to those who need medical assistance.

Working with the Ethiopian North American Health Providers Association, Susan Clarke will arrive in the African nation on 28 February and stay in Addis Ababa for one month, taking with her vital healthcare equipment.

"There is no emergency medicine in Ethiopia, so we're doing training over there with nurses and doctors and we've been training police officers to be emergency first-responders," Ms Clarke told the Nor'wester.

She added that paediatric supplies will also be given to hospitals because the medical infrastructure of the country is poor and there is "a real lack of everything", meaning that many young babies do not get the care they need.

On the other side of the continent, the Ghana Health Service recently called upon the government to hurry through the country's Mental Health Bill to help people suffering from such conditions.ADNFCR-1663-ID-19626337-ADNFCR
