Pakistan named among the worst for treating HIV and AIDS

Pakistan has been named among the worst nations for treating HIV and AIDS in a new study.
An investigation conducted by the University of New South Wales' National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre in Australia identified the country to be one of the least effective in providing treatment for those who had contracted the disease.
Chile, Kenya and Russia were also singled out for condemnation in the analysis published in The Lancet.
Dr Bradley Mathers, an author of the study, said: "Our findings suggest that, worldwide, there are few countries in which the level of intervention coverage is sufficient to prevent HIV transmission."
He added that the study showed the vast discrepancies across the globe relating to the prevention of the disease.
The news follows a recent announcement made by Dr Brian Williams of the South African Centre for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis, who said that a huge anti-retroviral treatment programme could bring an end to the HIV and AIDS virus in five-to-ten years.
