American politician to volunteer in India
02/03/2010
A politician from the US has flown to India to assist in community development in a small village outside Bangalore.
Jim Wozniak - previously a law student, criminal defence attorney and council board member in Iowa - has travelled to the Asian country to help teach at a rural school, according to the North Liberty Leader.
He will visit Bangalore - the capital of Karnataka that is home to HIV and AIDS victims, homeless people and underserved children.
The 31-year-old said: "I believe we can affect other people in good ways, maybe subtly, by just being there and doing good work."
Mr Wozniak expects to teach the children sports and outdoor activities and hopes that he will "leave some footprints there".
A group of students from Leeds Metropolitan University are to embark on a similar journey to India - spending four weeks teaching a number of academic subjects in Ahmednagar.
