Education

Every child - regardless of where they live - should have access to good quality primary education. This means that even the most disadvantaged – such as girls, those with disabilities, ethnic minorities and children affected by HIV and AIDS – need to be able to go to school.
CUSO-VSO volunteers support education programs in 21 countries in Africa, Asia, the Pacific and the Caribbean. They're working side-by-side with local educators, helping them deliver quality education in countries like Ethiopia, Cameroon and Rwanda.
As primary teacher trainers, volunteers may work with local colleauges to help them improve their teaching methods and practices. They'll work with serving teachers in a cluster of primary schools, introducing them to more participatory, child centred methodology. They'll be observing teachers and feeding back and also helping them to develop materials using local resources. You’ll work with teachers to improve education programs by increasing the quality of education and teaching methods.
As education managers, they could work with a central or regional government to develop curriculum or improve school management. Or they might advocate to improve wages or working conditions for teachers, as we know good teachers are critical to students' success.
We're recruiting experienced volunteers with the following professional backgrounds for overseas placements, starting as early as January 2010:
